• So Sammie and Susie Littletail went on making their garden, and in it they planted cabbage, radishes, lettuce and carrots—all things that rabbits love to eat. A few days later their papa, Mr. Littletail, the rabbit gentleman, made his garden, and he raked up a big pile of brush. When the garden was all nice and smooth Mr. Littletail said:

• Grunty Pig had got out of his pen and out of the piggery, too.
• The new girls stood in a row before the Head, and Miss Grayling looked at them all closely. Darrellfelt herself going red, she couldn't imagine why. Her knees felt a bit wobbly too. She hoped MissGrayling wouldn't ask her any questions, for she was sure she wouldn't be able to say a word!
